Discover the power of prayer with us.
We want to be a church that prays, and equips you to become a person of prayer.
At Hillside we long to be a church that prays: corporately and privately. We want to be a church that prays for our world, our nation, and our community. We want to equip and empower people just like you to pray in the privacy of their home, workplace, school, community events, and everywhere.
Here is how we are stepping into the vision for Hillside to be a house of prayers.
CORPORATELY:
There is something significant that happens when people gather together under King Jesus praying. God moves through our prayers. We long to be a community of prayer for our region, our nation, and the world. Below are just a handful of ways that we are incorporating prayer more and more to our Hillside culture.
1 Preservice Prayer - on Sunday mornings from 9:30 am - 10 am we gather for preservice prayer and connection in our youth room. Those gathered cover the service, upcoming events, our community, and more through a time of encouragement and prayer every Sunday morning. Along with our preservice prayer, our ministry teams pray for one another as they prepare to serve during Sunday service.
2 In service prayer - we pray during service. We aren’t shy to pray during service and ask God to move. Our worship songs are often a prayer. A worship leader or singer may take a moment or two during worship to pray, and encourage us to call on God. At the end of worship, often during the sermon, or at varying times we will push pause and pray as well. At the end of every service our prayer team is available to pray for all those who would like it.
3 January & August - we set aside 21 days of prayer and fasting twice a year as scheduled seasons to draw closer to God through spiritual disciplines. These seasons are also marked with Sunday evening prayer during the 21 days.
4 The Prayer Course - we are so grateful for the amazing ministry and team at 24/7 Prayer Network. And, we offer the Prayer Course as a small group during our winter/spring and fall small group semesters. Through this course we discover and grow in our understanding of prayer.
5 Sermons - once a year our Pastor or one of our communicators will preach on the subject of prayer. In 2023 we went through a series on the Lord’s Prayer. In 2024 we went through Psalm 23 and it’s significance for our life. In 2025 prayer was highlighted especially during a short series on Spiritual Disciplines.
PERSONALLY:
1 Daily Prayer - we encourage you to pray daily. Many love to use the Lectio 365 prayer app made available by the 24/7 prayer movement. Here’a link to enjoy this free prayer app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lectio-365/id1483974820
2 Small Groups - our small groups offer a community gathering where you can dialogue about, ask questions, and learn about God and your relationship with Him. In all our small groups, prayer is a vital part of it. You’ll hear others pray, and learn how to pray for yourself.
3 The Psalms - The Psalms, listed in the middle of your Bible, is the original prayer book used by the Jewish people and early Christians. For several centuries, and still to this day, many Christians pray the Psalms daily. One rhythm that people enjoy is slowly reading and praying through the Psalms each month (5 chapters a day).
